Welcome Pickard Community

Dear Pickard Staff, Students, Families, and Community,

Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year!

At Pickard Elementary, we are dedicated to academic excellence and this shines through in all we do. Our staff is devoted to providing a world-class education for all Pickard students.

As a CPS Exemplary International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) school, Pickard is focused on student-to-student discourse and inquiry-based learning rooted in high quality instruction. Teachers take on a student-centered approach that elevates collaboration and problem-solving, while being grounded in a deep commitment to social-emotional learning for all students. The foundation for this learning is built by our Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade teachers who work hard to ensure every student has the literacy and numeracy skills necessary to thrive as they progress in their educational careers at Pickard.

Additionally, Pickard would also like to thank our community partners for their enrichment, involvement, and support in student learning and growth:
  • The Union League Boys and Girls Club
  • GADS Hill
  • RUSH Hospital Reach Program
  • Wellness4Every1
  • Chicago Opera Theater
  • Chicago Human Rhythm Project
  • Ravinia
I am excited and honored to be serving the Pickard community and its families! I look forward to the work and progress we will all make together.

Thank you,

Ms. Jennifer McSurley
Principal

  • The Union League Boys and Girls Club
  • GADS Hill
  • RUSH Hospital Reach Program
  • Wellness4Every1
  • Chicago Opera Theater
  • Chicago Human Rhythm Project
  • Ravinia

Gracias,

Sra. Jennifer McSurley
