3rd and 4th Grades Collaborate with
Chicago Symphony Orchestra
They learned about tempo, dynamics, instruments, ostinatos, musical notes and mostly about how music can affect and represent how we feel/our mood. Students had a chance to make their own musical instruments at home and were very excited to participate virtually with our teaching artist (Ms. Cari Dinglasan). They created poems about emotions and colors.
8th grade Science/MYP
Community Service Learning Projects
In Science, the 8th graders studied extensively about vaccines. They learned about the history of vaccines, how they are created and tested, and the effect they have on stopping the virus from spreading. Then after learning and doing simulations they did more research and created commercials to inform or persuade the community about vaccines. Check out their projects below by clicking the link next to the student name.
Third Grade Book Projects
Fantastic Mr. Fox
6th and 7th grade Remote Service-Learning Project: Cards for local Veterans
6th and 7th grade made beautiful, inspirational cards that thanked Chicago's veterans for their service to our country. The cards were delivered to Chicago's Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, which happens to be a neighborhood over from our Pilsen community. Veterans from Chicago and all over IL receive all kinds of services at the center from general healthcare to rehabilitation and support for women veterans. When we dropped off the cards, everyone was absolutely delighted and extremely excited to receive Pickard's cards! Pickard students are making a huge difference in people's lives at a time when they need it most! We are very proud!
